Element "AIR"

Element "AIR" as Sri Kalahasteeswarar
The holy place of Air element of God Shiva is in SriKalahasti town of AndhraPradesh.

The temple is a holy place near Tirupati about 150 KMs from Chennai City .Located on the banks of the river Swarnamukhi.

This is the place where Kannappa, one of the 63 Saivite Nayanars, was ready to pluck both his eyes to stop the blood flowing from the Siva linga when God Siva stopped him and granted liberation.

The temple in this place was constructed in the 12th century by the Chola king, Rajarajendra.

God Shiva is reportedly taken the form of Air ( Vauyu in Sanskrit )and worshipped as Kalahasteeswara .The leading deity is the vayu (air) linga.

The flame of the oil lamp inside the shrine can be seen to flicker even though the linga is enclosed by four walls. Which is said to denote the existence of the God as Air?
